The Papyrus of Ani, Chapter 134

Copyright 1997 by Neil Parker.

Text:

Adoration of Ra on the [first] day of the month, when [his] boat sails.

Homage to you in his boat, rising, rising, shining, shining,

Man speaks [of him], rejoicing, for millions of years, according to his desire, and [his] face turns toward the people.

As for Khepri in his boat, he casts down Aapep; and as for the children of Geb, you will cast down the enemies of the Osiris Ani, true of voice.

As for the destroyers who would destroy the boat of Ra, Horus has cut off your heads in heaven in the form of ducks. You are disgraced on earth, placed on earth as animals and as fish.

All the enemies, male and female, are overthrown by [the scribe has accidentally left a blank space where Ani's name should be].

He who will not come down from heaven, or come forth from earth, you who are come forth upon water, you advance to face the star-gods.

Thoth has cut them apart according to his custom, coming forth from the Two Rocks; the Osiris scribe Ani silences and deafens them.

Indeed, it is this great god who lets you be slain, he who is great of awe and terror.

He purifies himself in your blood; he bathes in your gore; the Osiris scribe Ani overthrows you in the boat of his lord Ra-Horus.

As for the Osiris Ani, true of voice, [his] heart lives; his mother Isis has given birth to him, and Nephthys has nursed him, as they did for Horus to repel the minions of Set.

They have seen the crown established on his head, and they have fallen on their faces.

Indeed, as for the glorified spirits, mankind, gods, and the dead, they have seen the Osiris Ani, true of voice, in the form of Horus. He is a favored one of the crown; you fall on your faces.

The voice of the Osiris Ani Ani [sic], true of voice, is true against his enemies in heaven above and in heaven below, before the divine Council of all the gods and all the goddesses.

Speak [these] words over a great hawk, standing with the White Crown on its head, and [over] Atum, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, and Nephthys, drawn in red paint upon a new plaque, placed on the boat with the image of the glorified spirit, annointed with praise. Give them incense upon the flame, and ducks, and roasted meat offerings. It is in praise of Ra, and the sailing of his boat. It is done to be with Ra every place where he sails. In very truth, it is the cutting up of the enemies of Ra. To be done on the sixth day of the festival, a spell for sailing.
